Missions We Support Financially

Asbury’s Weekly Mission Offering Supports the Following Ministries

Anne Arundel County Community Action Agency offers several programs including the Head Start Program, which operates comprehensive child development services designed for income eligible preschool children and families, the Annapolis Youth Services Bureau, which offers free one-on-one counseling for youth ages 5 to 18 and their families, the Office of Home Energy Programs, which helps income-eligible residents meet the high cost of staying warm during the cold months and to prevent future crisis, and Empowerment Services, which includes HUD certified housing counseling, microenterprise development, and self-sufficiency counseling.

Anne Arundel County Food Bank is a free resource bank that gives away food and donated “gently used” appliances, furniture, medical equipment, baby items, cars and other items that will help a needy family make a home and a better way of life.

Arundel House of Hope is an ecumenical organization that provides emergency, transitional, and permanent affordable housing for the poor and homeless in Anne Arundel County.

Crop Walks are sponsored by Church World Service with donations going to fight hunger throughout the world (80 countries), to aid in land mine removal, to teach farming and well building skills, to provide health kits and school kits, to hand out blankets to the homeless, to be the first on the scene in times of disaster with clean up kits and counseling, etc. What makes Crop Walks unique however, is the 25% of donations that stay in the local community. Our S.P. Walk donates 25% of all proceeds to SPAN.

Good News Jail and Prison Ministry’s mission is to provide spiritually mature, equipped, and motivated Christian chaplains to serve in correctional facilities nationally and internationally.  Their purpose is to meet the spiritual needs of both inmates and staff through ministry that includes evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral attention, while facilitating other religious faiths within the guidelines established by law and the individual correctional facility.

Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to people who homebound due to age or disability, Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland supports independent living and quality of life for individuals who wish to remain in their own homes.

Miguel Mairena  is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church who has served in Nicaragua since 1997. Along with his wife, Nan McCurdy, also a BGM missionary, Miguel works with the Women and Community Association in Nicaragua, a countryside ecumenical organization of women.

My Brother's Pantry provides well-balanced, non-perishable food every month to needy families on the Broadneck Peninsula. This effort relies solely on donations and is powered by a large network of dedicated volunteers from area churches and a synagogue. Volunteers collect donations, shelve food, pack food boxes and distribute to thankful families.

Safe House of Hope provides education, training, and support to help victims of human trafficking become an active part of a healthy community.  Asbury provides financial support.

SPAN was formed because of the concern on the part of the ministers in the Severna Park area with regard to the growing demand for emergency help, the need to identify the people seeking help, and a process to help those people in a dignified and expeditious manner.  SPAN provides a food pantry, prescription drug assistance, eviction protection, utility assistance, and holiday caring assistance (Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner and gifts, and Easter dinner and baskets).

YWCA Arden House – a shelter providing crisis intervention services for women who are victims of domestic violence and their children. Arden House is the only domestic violence shelter in Anne Arundel County and it runs the county’s only domestic violence hotline. Arden House is a 24-hour, 21-bed crisis facility that is open 365 days per year. The shelter is confidential and provides a variety of support services: case management, individual and group therapy, financial assistance, career counseling, educational groups, and more.

United Methodist Church - Human Relations Day offering supports vital community ministries that teach and advocate for justice, especially among people struggling to survive in the margins of society. 

United Methodist Church - Imagine No Malaria is an extraordinary effort of the people of The United Methodist Church, putting our faith into action to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother.  Every 60 seconds, malaria claims a life in Africa. Millions of lives are needlessly lost each year.   As a life-saving ministry, Imagine No Malaria aims to empower the people of Africa to overcome malaria’s burden. We fight malaria with a comprehensive model. 

United Methodist Church - Native American Sunday provides scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist schools of theology and other schools approved by the University Senate of The United Methodist Church.

United Methodist Church – One Great Hour of Sharing benefits The United Methodist Committee on Relief located at the General Board of Global Ministries. With this offering, The United Methodist Church rebuilds lives and communities around the world by helping the United Methodist Committee on Relief keep its promise that 100% of your designated gift goes to specific causes.

United Methodist Church – Peace with Justice allows The United Methodist Church to have a voice in advocating for peace with justice through many programs in the United States and around the world.  Peace with Justice Sunday enables The United Methodist Church to witness to God's hope for a faithful, loving world. The offering awards grants to organizations who advocate for peace and equality.

United Methodist Church – Student Day gifts support United Methodist scholarships and the U.M. Student Loan Fund, administered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

United Methodist Church - World Communion Sunday gifts provide World Communion Scholarships with at least one-half of the annual amount for ministries beyond the United States, Ethnic Minority Scholarship Program, and Ethnic In-Service Training Program.
