Impact Week (Youth)
Impact Week Leader: Ashley Cox

June 24-28

Impact Week is a summer youth program at Asbury United Methodist Church in Arnold where middle and high school youth will come together for a week of service, fun, and faith building.  Mornings will be spent serving others in our community.  This may include yard work for some special needs community members, packaging meals for those that are food insecure, organizing and cleaning up one of the area food pantries, or helping spruce up Asbury church.  Afternoons will be spent establishing and building a relationship with God and in fellowship.  After fellowship we will have some structured fun/socializing time- bowling, watching a movie, a field day, video scavenger hunt.  Follow this LINK to see photos of Impact Week 2019.

The cost for the camp will be $200 for campers and $100 for peer ministers.  This covers the cost of outings, T-shirts, and materials.

Daily Schedule

Each day will begin with an opening program of music, prayer, and socializing.  The campers and the peer ministers will then go to their small group locations and prepare for their worksite.  Shortly after 9 am, all groups will depart for their service sites with our parent driver/chaperones.  At lunchtime, the groups return to Asbury to eat their bagged lunches, brought from home, and enjoy some free time.  Following this, they will again gather as a group to explore our theme through a lesson and discussion.  After the lesson, youth will break into smaller groups for a guided discussion about the topic of the lesson.  Around 2:00/2:30, all groups depart for the afternoon fun/social activity, again driven by our parent/chaperones.  Upon returning to the church at approximately 4:00 pm, we will hold a closing program with dismissal at 4:30 pm.  On Friday we will take a trip to Harpers Ferry, WV for a relaxing day of tubing and exploring Harper’s Ferry so pick up will be later than usual.

Pick up and drop off

Campers should arrive promptly at 8:30 am each morning.  Peer Ministers should arrive at 8:00 am.

Campers should be picked up by 4:30 pm each afternoon and Peer Ministers should be picked up at 5:00 pm.

** On the final day, June 29th, all campers should be picked up at approximately 7:00 pm.  We will have the kids call when we are about ½ hour away.

Parent driver/chaperones will be needed each day to get students to the work sites and fun activities.  We ask each parent to sign up for at least two driving shifts for the first registered camper or peer minister and one shift for each additional camper or peer minister during the week.  All adults must complete Asbury’s safe sanctuary training and complete a DMV screening to work with youth.

Parents are called "driver/chaperones" because they are also responsible to STAY at the site and act as a chaperone. This includes morning and afternoon drivers.

There will be high school peer ministers with the campers to assist with supervision, but having adult chaperones with the youth at all times is required.  Chaperones are welcome to participate in the service activity if you choose.

Morning driver/chaperones:  please check in at Asbury by 8:45 am. You will be finished when you return the youth to the church (around lunchtime).

Afternoon driver/chaperones:  please arrive at Asbury by 1:30 pm.  You will be finished around 4:00 pm when you return the youth to the church.

Peer Ministers

Youth that are in 10th, 11th or 12th grades for the 2018/2019 school year may be considered as Peer Ministers (PM).  The Peer Ministers will be chosen to serve as mentors and positive peer leaders to the younger campers.  During camp, PMs will guide worksite activities and lead small group discussions after our lessons.  Peer Ministers will also be expected to assist with some of the preparation for the work sites and fun activities before the camp begins.  There will be two required training sessions to get everyone prepared.  Once you select that you would like to be considered as a Peer Minister, an additional application will be sent to you.

Peer Minister Training

We will discuss an overview of how Impact Week will work and expectations of peer ministers.  The meeting dates and times will be arranged to best accomodate schedules.

ALL Peer Ministers are expected to assist with Impact Week set-up on Sunday, June 23 from 1:00 - 2:30 pm (or until set-up is complete).

Please contact Ashley Cox, the camp director at or 812-455-2205 if you have any questions or concerns.
