VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

This is a joyful week where children gather to learn about God with a new theme each year.   Follow this LINK to see what fun we had at Cave Quest VBS 2016.   Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 16 2018 - July 20 2018. Registration will open in May.

BIBLE STUDY

Tuesday Evening Bible Study is a group of 10 -16 men and women that have been meeting weekly for several years to study a variety of scriptural programs.  The group has chosen various studies and for the last year or so has been studying programs from Kerygma. The programs have been very diverse and have included, Exodus - Gateway to the Bible, Into the World - The Acts of the Apostles, Parables - Stories for Life in God's World, The Light Will Shine - A Study for Advent.

24 Hours that Changed the World
February 13 through March 27

Overview
Presents a narrative of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, with a meditation on its meaning and significance for Christians. No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In this Lenten journey, Adam Hamilton guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus' life. Each chapter is designed to help the reader experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and death in a way you have never done before. Whether readers are long-time Christians or simply curious about the story of Christ's crucifixion, they are invited to join the author in retracing the last 24 hours of Jesus' life.

If you have questions or would like to join the study, contact Kurt Kuhn.

The Gospel of Mark
April 3 through May 22

Overview
The portrait of Jesus we find in Mark is one of a powerful man, confident of his choices, but thoroughly trusting in God even as he faces persecution and ultimately death. Those who struggle in their discipleship are comforted to read in Mark's gospel how even Jesus' followers so often fail to understand the depth and breadth of Jesus' power and authority.  Mark's words are an encouragement to uncertain disciples of all the ages to see clearly the path Jesus invites us to follow.

Contents include, The Foundation of the Gospels, The Galilean Ministry Begins, Teaching and Preaching,  A Man Who Does Everything Well, Visions of the Kingdom, What is Power?, Signs of the End, and  Death into Life.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study A four week study of the New Testament book of James begins Wednesday, January 24th.  We will meet from 10:00—11:30 am in the church library.  Come and explore this unique book which some have said is more a "first century Christian wisdom book rather than a letter to a specific congregation."  All are welcome.

If you have questions or wish to receive a study outline based on the Kerygma Resource book, please contact Ann Brady.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Asbury’s Book Discussion Group has chosen 6 selections for 2018.  The meeting dates and selections are described HERE.  The group is open to newcomers and meets in the Fisherman classroom at 7:30 pm on the dates noted.  In December, the group has a dinner meeting at a member’s house and they select the books for the next year at that meeting.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

United Methodist Women meet on a monthly basis in members’ homes at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month.

The group supports their mission commitment through pledging and fundraising.  The UMW Flea Market and Bake Sale, held in March of 2016, raised over $3,800 for mission projects.
