Adult Ministries

Join us for a small group ministry. All groups are open to newcomers.

Adult Forum discusses The Wired Word, an e-mail Bible lesson delivered to your inbox every Thursday.  The lesson explores a current event, using scriptural references and provocative discussion questions.  This class is led by Fern & Eric Bowman and meets in the Hathorne Room.

LAUGH (Living Always Under God’s Hand) does various studies that the class chooses.  This class meets in the library in the basement of the Sanctuary

Moms Class  Experience Asbury’s own Sunday version of  EAT ♥  PRAY ♥ LOVE as we:

feed the spirit
offer prayer, and
love being in each other’s company

Mothers of all ages are invited. Books provided.  Moms meet during the Sunday School hour.  Facilitated by Tricia Kelly, mom of 3.

Tuesday Evening Bible Study is a group of 10 -16 men and women that have been meeting weekly for several years to study a variety of scriptural programs.  The group has chosen various studies and for the last year or so has been studying programs from Kerygma. The programs have been very diverse and have included, Exodus - Gateway to the Bible, Into the World - The Acts of the Apostles, Parables - Stories for Life in God's World, The Light Will Shine - A Study for Advent.

A 14 week study “Beginnings: A Study of the Call of God in Genesis. begins Tuesday September 12, 2017.  The group meets from 7:00 - 8:30 in the Hathorne Room.  If you are interested in participating in this small group study contact the Church office or Kurt Kuhn or call or text 410-279-0340.  There is a resource guide that is required for the course which costs $20.

“Beginnings: A Study of the Call of God in Genesis.” One of the Kerygma Program studies, it is based on Walter Brueggemann's commentary on Genesis. Beginnings takes a fresh look at some familiar Bible stories. The discussions on creation and creationism, the rebellion of humankind and the Flood bring new perspectives on today's issues. The experiences of Abraham, Esau, Jacob and Joseph speak to Christians seeking to live responsibly in our world. It is a 14 week study which will cover: Creation, the Flood, God’s Promises to Abraham, the conflict between Jacob and Esau, and the story of Joseph.

Beginning October 4, 2017, the Wednesday morning Bible group will begin a 7-week study on the Book of Galatians. "In Galatians, Paul teaches us that we approach God through grace, which is simply His power at work in us. In this letter, we find the encouragement to live and walk in the Spirit." The class will meet in the library on Wednesday mornings, 10:00 - 11:30 am. All those interested, please call the church office by September 17th to order the Kerygma Resource Book for this study, cost $19.00. If you would like more information about the group, please contact Ann Brady, 410-212-4680 or

Asbury’s Book Discussion Group has chosen 6 selections for 2017.  The meeting dates and selections are described HERE.  The group is open to newcomers and meets in the Fisherman classroom at 7:30 pm on the dates indicated.  In December, they have a dinner meeting at a member’s house and they select the books for the next year at that meeting.

United Methodist Women meet on a monthly basis in members’ homes at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month.

The group supports their mission commitment through pledging and fundraising.  The UMW Flea Market and Bake Sale, held in March of 2016, raised over $3,800 for mission projects.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - This ministry started at our church in 2005, and since that time we have given away over 150 shawls.  Members knit or crochet prayer shawls that are a symbol of God's grace, peace, and love.  We make shawls for all different reasons, sometimes it is for a difficult situation, but other times it is to celebrate a wedding, friendship, or graduation.  Newcomers and beginners are always welcome.  For more info, contact Fern Bowman at
