Join us for a small group ministry. All groups are open to newcomers.
Tuesday Evening Bible Study is a group of 10 -16 men and women that have been meeting weekly for several years to study a variety of scriptural programs. The group has chosen various studies and for the last year or so has been studying programs from Kerygma. The programs have been very diverse and have included, Exodus - Gateway to the Bible, Into the World - The Acts of the Apostles, Parables - Stories for Life in God's World, The Light Will Shine - A Study for Advent.
The class will begin a 6 week study “BLESSED ARE YOU: THE BEATTITUDES OF JESUS IN SCRIPTURE AND LIFE” on April 9, 2013.
The class typically meets at the home of Madeline Young, with an occasional location change. The class meets from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with 90 minutes devoted to the study and the last half hour devoted to social time to enjoy refreshments, sharing of joys and concerns and prayer requests. The group has an annual dinner at the conclusion of the spring study, generally late May. The group takes a summer break and resumes in September.
The current study is led by Kurt Kuhn and Kenan Habetler, Minister of Pastoral Care & Teaching. For more information, contact Kurt Kuhn at babylon5kk@aol.com.
Thursday Morning Bible Study is a group of about 10 who meet weekly for Bible study. The group is led by Rodger Findiesen. Rodger is a retired Certified Lay Minister and has lead adult studies for 20 years. Our goal is simple: The more you know Jesus the more you will love him and grow as his disciple. We always have room for more students!
The class will begin a 6 week study “BLESSED ARE YOU: THE BEATTITUDES OF JESUS IN SCRIPTURE AND LIFE” on April 4, 2013.
This group meets in the Library in the basement of the sanctuary from 9:15 to 11:15 am. To join the group, please contact Rodger Findiesen at rfindiesen@gmail.com .
Asbury’s Book Discussion Group has chosen 6 selections for 2013. The meeting dates and selections are described HERE. If any of the selections interest you, please join them for the discussion. They meet in the sanctuary in the Fisherman classroom at 7:30 pm. In December, they have a dinner meeting at a member’s house and they select the books for the next year at that meeting.
United Methodist Women meet on a monthly basis studying and discussing the UMW program book for the year, Walk with Wholeness. The group meets in members’ homes at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month. The group usually plans a dinner outing over the summer and a Christmas gathering in December.
The group supports their mission commitment through pledging and fundraising. The UMW Flea Market and Bake Sale, held in March of 2013, raised over $4,000 for mission projects.
Food and Fellowship is a group to help people in the Asbury congregation get to know each other better, whether they are new to Asbury or long-timers. Adults from 4 households will meet at homes for dinner once a month for 4 months, and then scramble the groups to get to know others.
Prayer Shawl Ministry - This ministry started at our church in 2005, and since that time we have given away over 100 shawls. Members knit or crochet prayer shawls that are a symbol of God's grace, peace, and love. We make shawls for all different reasons, sometimes it is for a difficult situation, but other times it is to celebrate a wedding, friendship, or graduation. Newcomers and beginners are always welcome. For more info, contact Fern Bowman at fern.bowman@yahoo.com.
